A python in flight to Paris

By Geneviève Cournoyer-Scalise July 13 2020

This impressive python and its lovely owner, Melissa, have developed a very special bond over the past 5 years. When Melissa decided to return to France, leaving her precious friend behind was not an option. Therefore, Laticka traveled in a cage especially designed for the transportation of snakes on board of a transatlantic flight from Montreal (YUL) to Paris (CDG).

In order to respect all of the airline’s kennel requirements, Laticka’s wooden cage was made with small openings on the sides which promotes air circulation during travel. It also included a top handle for easy manipulation and a front lock to prevent the door from opening in the event of turbulence.

As snakes are cold-blooded animals, they rely on their environment to store the heat needed to regulate their metabolism. Thus, Melissa took care to place Laticka in a canvas bag and included a hot water bottle suitable for reptile travel which retains heat as long as 20 hours.
